Red carpet for Filmfactory Allumni

(Sunday, July 26th 2009)

Last week the feature Motherland had its world premiere in Los Angeles. Writer-director Doris Yeung was one of last year's Filmfactory participants and mentor Rutger Hauer showed up on the red carpet to offer her some moral support on this special occasion. "An exceptional film", commented Rutger afterwards. "It's obvious that Doris has a talent for filmmaking. It's quite a hardhitting, beautiful story. It made me proud and happy."

Doris Yeung's feature debut Motherland premiered at OUTFEST 09, the 27th Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Motherland was written, directed and produced by Yeung, who participated in last year's Rutger Hauer Filmfactory. In the film a young Asian American woman, Raffi Tang, is called home after a long absence abroad when her estranged mother is murdered. She becomes increasingly drawn into a web of deception and incompetence, whilst at the same time dealing with her own grief; only to find out that the American Dream can come at too high a price.

About her experiences at the Rutger Hauer Filmfactory she says: "It was quite a blast to be part of the Filmfactory. Rutger is terrific. He's also very generous with his time, energy and experience. He creates a place where you can develop your ideas and brings people together who are not only going to be your friends, but your colleagues as well. Thanks to the Filmfactory I met the producer of my new project: Four Seasons."
